Super Star Homework
This year I am asking my crew to read for 20 minutes every night, do an xtramath lesson every night, and practice sight words every night - Monday through Thursday. The students will have a sheet to be signed that will need to be brought back on Friday. They will earn a star for each activity they complete during the week and once the crew earns 200 stars, the crew will earn a group reward. Students that consistently turn in homework will be recognized in alternative ways. We will also have a Friday journal that students will bring home on Friday night with 3 things written in it that they have learned over the week. I am asking that you visit with them about what they have learned and write back. It should be returned on Monday morning.
****If your child does not have access to a computer for xtramath, I can make arrangements for them to use a computer in the morning when they get to school.
This was sent home on Monday 9/9/2013
Schoolcraft Learning Community
curiosity...compassion...creativity
We have learned the first clues to the expedition...some students are pretty sure they know where we are headed in the expedition. We will see:) Guess what...they were right! Final clues during our fieldwork at Lake Bemidji State Park on Thursday and Friday cemented their thoughts that it was animals in their habitats. Another mystery solved...for now:)
This week in second grade...
In math we are working on sequencing numbers and matching coins with their appropriate amount. We are also reviewing calendars and time to the half hour.
**Students have a copy of the 220 (K-3) Dolch sight words. My goal is for each child to be able to read these words quickly with 100% accuracy. If your child can read the entire Dolch sight word book with 100% accuracy, please contact me for the next step (working on spelling the Dolch sight words with 100% accuracy).
In my crew reading we are working on setting a purpose for our reading, making sure we pay attention to our interests, and find good fit books.
In writing we are working on discovering how master writers Jane Yolen and Angela Johnson write meaningful stories. We will be trying to copy their style to improve our writing.
